What elementary school is coming to the Hamburg area? How can I submit my suggestion to name the new elementary school? When will they pick the winning name of the new school in the Hamburg area?

Fayette County Public Schools is seeking the help of the community on choosing a name for the new elementary school on Athens-Boonesboro Road. FCPS set up a page through Google Docs, where people can submit their suggested name for the school.

There are, of course, requirements and regulations that go into the choosing of the name.

We have the responsibility to ensure that ALL students are actively engaged, achieving at high levels and are prepared to excel in a global society.”

School names must fit one of the following criteria under Fayette County Public School policy:

  1. A name that is in use now and describes a geographical area of Lexington-Fayette County, or
  2. The name of a prominent deceased person who has contributed to the history and/or progress of the Lexington-Fayette County area.
Click here to submit your suggestion. No date has been given as to when they will select the new name, only that there is Athens-Boonesboro Elementary Community Meeting on March 25 at Crossroads Church.
