There has been much speculation about what establishment would be replacing the Applebee’s location in Hamburg, which closed in January of 2018. Well, the wait is finally over.

burrito on plate with rice and beansThe Tex-Mex restaurant chain, Chuy’s, established in 1982 by Mike Young and John Zapp after binge-watching Star Wars and becoming mega fans of Chewbacca, will replace the old tenants on Alyesheba Way. This is Chuy’s second location in Lexington with the other spot being quite successful on Nicholasville Road near Cinemark.

Chuy’s decor has gained notoriety through their elaborate choice in decor, which was born out of necessity due to budgeting back when Zapp and Young started the franchise. Now, each location has their own feel but some common themes such as an Elvis shrine, which every restaurant celebrates The King’s birthday and they have hand-carved wooden fish hanging from the ceiling as well as hubcaps.

Chuy’s is now located in 19 states–Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Missouri and Ohio.
