Here are some event of interest to Lexington senior citizens for October 2016.

Wednesday, Oct. 5

Are you interested in painting but don’t know where to start? This is the class for you. Join at the Lexington Senior Center with instructor Rose for step-by-step instructions on painting a new masterpiece of your very own. This month, Rose will be teaching us to paint a beautiful fall scene. The first class will be Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the senior center. The cost is $7 and includes all paints, paint brushes, canvas and step-by-step instruction. Sign ups begin as soon as activities resume in the new center. Space is limited and you must pay the admission fee before a spot can be held for you.

Wednesday, Oct. 5

AARP driver refresher course will be held  Wednesday, Oct. 5 from noon until 4:30 p.m. at the Lexington Senior Center. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Those wishing to attend can sign up at the Lexington Senior Center.

Thursday, Oct. 6 

September brings with it football season, cooler temperatures and the return of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Forum at the Lexington Senior Center. The OLLI forums take place Thursday afternoons from 1:15 to :230 p.m.

Call the Lexington Senior Center for schedule of dates  If you are 60 or older, a resident of Fayette County and wish to participate in the senior center activities,fill out a registration form at the front desk.

OLLI at the University of Kentucky is a membership lifelong learning institute open to adults 50 years of age and older. Members choose from a wide variety of learning opportunities including courses, shared interest groups, Donovan Forums, day trips, seminars, UK wellness opportunities and more.

Member-volunteers serve on an advisory board/leadership council, numerous committees, teach courses, assist instructors, recommend and make decisions about curriculum, create and present events, socials, day trips, promote initiatives, and serve in many other ways. The annual membership is $25 and includes the fall, spring and summer sessions.

Friday, Oct. 14

The Lexington Senior Citizens Center will host a fall craft class on Oct. 14, starting at 9:30 a.m. Space is limited so guests are asked sign up at the front desk to reserve a spot as soon as possible.

THURSDAY, OCT. 20

The Lexington Senior Citizens Center will host a trip to Keeneland Oct. 20.

The cost is $15 and includes van transportation, admission, grandstand seating and program. Guests will depart the senior center at 11:30 a.m. and return at 5 p.m. For more information, go to lexingtonky.gov.

Friday, Oct. 28

Start working on your costumes now. The Lexington Senior Center will be hosting a spook-tacular Halloween Party on Friday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. Tickets will go on sale Oct. 3 and will be $6 each.
