Father’s Day is Sunday, June 21, and it might look a little different this year, but this month is still all about dads. There are many local and unique ways to still make dads feel loved this year. Check out a sampling of what’s open, what’s closed, and what to do for Father’s Day.
Brenda Cowan Elementary Wins Award
Imagine Nation awarded Brenda Cowan Elementary the 2019-2020 Imagine Nation award for their Imagine Math PreK-2 artwork.
First 5 Lex
Fayette County Community Early Childhood Council has received a $50,000 state grant to continue their First 5 Lex program. This initiative allows families and caregivers to access information about early learning and connects them to fun, stimulating, age-appropriate activities that support the child’s development.
Girl Scouts Need Your Help
The Fayette County Girl Scout troops from Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road (GSKWR) are asking for the community’s help with a surplus inventory of cookies.
ConGRADulations
In early June, all six Fayette County high schools will televise graduation videos. These videos feature commencement speeches, musical performances, pictures of each senior, the announcement of each student’s name, and other special traditions unique to each school on the education station.
Classmates, faculty, friends, and family have found creative ways to congratulate the class of 2020.
Happy to Be with LFCHD
Lexington-Fayette County Health Department has a weekly series designed to help parents and caregivers provide some entertainment for kids (and maybe learn a thing or two for themselves) while being healthy at home.
Summer Youth Job Training Program Canceled
Lexington Social Services canceled the Summer Youth Job Training Program due to the high health risk of COVID-19. This 6-week program provides workforce training opportunities for Lexington’s youth workers. Jobs include Lexington businesses, government agencies, and community organizations. The program will be back for the summer of 2021.
Summer Meals for Kids
Fayette County Public Schools have teamed with God’s Pantry Food Bank and Employment Solutions to continue food services for kids during the summer. The Summer Food Service Program will provide free meals for children ages 18 or younger and it will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Locations near the Hamburg area include Breckinridge Elementary, Bryan Station High School, and Deep Springs Elementary. These locations will be serviced on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 am – 12:30 pm.
