November is National Hospice and Family Caregivers Month. For more than 35 years, the Medicare hospice program has offered a person-centered approach to treatment that includes expert medical care, comprehensive pain management, and emotional and spiritual support – most often provided in your home.

 

The YMCA November Food Drive is November 5 through November 19. The Y will waive joining fees when you sign up if you donate five items to the food drive.

Saturday, November 3

The National Horse Show 5K benefitting the Kentucky Equine Humane Center is November 3.

 

The 4th Annual Dirty Dog Trail 4 Miler will take place on Saturday, November 3 at 9 am at Veterans’ Park.

 

The 3rd Annual Hope for Tomorrow 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018 in historic Midway, KY.

 

Sunday, November 4

The VA 5k will be held on the grounds of the Lexington Veterans Administration Medical Center on November 4. Race day activities begin at 10 am and the race starts at noon. In 2017, more than 180 participants helped raise over $10,500 to assist in the construction of the Fisher House, a comfortable home where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment at the Lexington VA Medical Center. Proceeds from this year’s race will once again benefit the Fisher House and the Lexington VA Medical Center’s outreach program.

 

Thursday, November 8

The American Heart Association of Lexington presents the Go Red for Women Experience. On November 8 at the Lexington Convention Center, join for a heart healthy lunch to promote healthy lifestyles, build awareness, and raise critically-needed funds to support research and education initiatives for heart disease and stroke.

 

Hearing Loss Association of America Lexington Chapter (HLAALC) meets at Eastside Library on Thursday, November 8. They offer emotional support, tips and techniques for living with hearing loss, and technical information about hearing assistance devices. Presentations are made by audiologists, doctors, professors, therapists, trainers, specialists, and others with hearing loss knowledge. Real Time Captioning is used at the meetings.

 

Friday, November 9

American Cancer Society’s “All In to End Cancer” Casino Night is November 9 at The Grand Reserve Event Center. Enjoy casino games, popular eats and libations, music, celebrity dealers, a silent auction, and more.

 

Saturday, November 10

The Rough Trail 50K is November 10. The start and finish line areas will be at the Koomer Ridge Campground Amphitheater inside the Red River Gorge Geological Area.

 

The Blue Devil 5K-Madness Fun Run/Walk for Veterans is Saturday November 10.

 

The third annual Historic Haunt on November 10th. Whitehall State Historic Site is the home for the Historic Haunt. This is a 10K Race, 5K Run/Walk, and Little Goblins Run.

 

The NIRCA Open 5K is November 10.  A championship level course, Masterson Station Park is the host of this year’s race. The NIRCA Open 5k is open to the public

 

Sunday, November 11

Cranksgiving is food drive-style bike ride, on November 11, through Lexington to multiple grocery stores with the goal of picking up non-perishables for the holiday season. Participants begin at Bicycle Face and end at Broomwagon..

 

Tuesday, November 13

Hoops for Hope to benefit the Hope Center is November 13 at Rupp Arena. Teams compete against other corporate and community teams in fundraising and five minute shootouts at Rupp.

 

Wednesday, November 14

Join Hamburg Family Dental and the Hamburg Journal for the premier Hamburg Huddle. The Hamburg Huddle is Southeast Lexington’s premier networking event. Network with professionals and business leaders from the Southeast Lexington community. Holiday cheer will be served. Wednesday, November 14 from 5 to 7 pm at Hamburg Family Dental, off Sir Barton at 2716 Old Rosebud Road. RSVP to info@hamburgjournal.com.

 

Thursday, November 15

The Southern Lights Stroll 5K is November 15 at 6:30 pm at Kentucky Horse Park. Stroll, or run, through the Southern Lights display on foot for a good cause. A food drive for God’s Pantry and local animal shelters will be held in conjunction with this event. All participants are asked to bring non-perishable items to help families and individuals of Central Kentucky and local animal shelters.

 

The 4th Annual Shannon’s Angels Fundraising Event to support women with ovarian cancer is November 15 at Artsplace.

 

Sunday, November 18

The 3rd Annual Gobbler Half Marathon, 10K & 5K is on Sunday, November 18 at Mereworth Farm in West Lexington.

 

Thursday, November 22

The Thoroughbred Classic 5k and Kay Collins Memorial Mile is Thanksgiving Day, November 22 at Keeneland.

 

Saturday, December 1

5th Annual Spindletop Stache & Sweater Dash 5K will be held on Saturday, December 1 at 10am at Spindletop Hall in North Lexington.  Bring your “Movember” growth or paste on mustache and your ugliest holiday sweater to compete for awards.
