July is National Ice Month and the third Sunday of the month is National Ice Cream Day. This year National Ice Cream Day falls on Sunday, July 21.

As a 150 year old brand, Graeter’s has adopted July as their birth month and the third Sunday of the month as their birthday.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan established July as National Ice Cream Month and requested for people to observe these events with “appropriate ceremonies and activities.”

Graeter’s celebrates all month long with special in store events like coloring contests for kids and discounts. Throughout the month of July, receive double reward points on Tuesdays and discounts on frozen drinks on Thursday. On National Ice Cream Day this year, July 21, receive a $1.49 ice cream cone in honor of their 149th birthday.

During the summer, Graeter’s releases a line of five summer bonus flavors every three weeks. This summer’s flavors so far have been Malted Pretzel Ball, Amaretto Crunch, Honeycomb. The last two bonus flavors will release on July 15 and August 5. Along with the bonus flavors, Graeter’s offers special monthly flavors, like watermelon sorbet and peach that run throughout the summer.

Graeter’s will announce the rest of the bonus flavors on social media throughout the summer. Flavors are considered limited time only and once it is gone, it is retired for the year.

There are two Graeter’s Lexington locations in Hamburg on Justice Drive, and another in Chevy Chase on Euclid Avenue.

The Hamburg Graeter’s, which opened in 2013 near Malone’s, was one of the last few franchised stores.

Last year, Graeter’s Ice Cream acquired Graeter’s Ice Cream shops that was currently operated by its last franchisee, Tedesco, LLC. The Graeter’s family now owns and operates all Graeter’s Ice Cream parlors.
