Trees Lexington! is starting a new program called “Pocket Nursery”. What is this program? When will it begin? How can someone sign up?

Trees Lexington: a road filled with treesTrees Lexington is a committee that promotes the valuable role of urban forestry in the city. This group, known as the Tree Canopy Committee, set out to evaluate the current state of Lexington’s urban tree canopy and to strategize ways of encouraging management and expansion of trees onto private land.

They are asking for volunteers to help nurture trees in a pocket nursery on April 19 and April 20. This is a program that was designed by arborists and approved by homeowners.

Each pocket nursery comes with:

  • 1 durable 27”x27”x18” fabric grow bag
  • Composted wood chip mulch (trees love this stuff!)
  • 6-8 saplings featuring a diversity of native species
  • Appropriate ground cover species (yes, it’s a complete ecosystem!)
  • 1 Trees Lexington! rain gauge
  • Regular educational events hosted by Trees Lexington! on topics related to tree care, planting, & outreach
