Junior Naturalist
The free Junior Naturalist program at McConnell Springs Education Center on Nov 20, 2021 is turkey-themed. It will include a theme related craft and is designed for youth K – 5th grade. Parents or guardians are required to stay with young participants during this program. There is a 10 am and 1 pm session.
Parents’ Night Out
Parents can drop their kids, ages 6 – 11, off at the McConnell Springs Education Center on Nov 19, 2021. Staff will have nature-related activities for the kids to enjoy including a hike, arts and crafts, games and hands-on activities. Children may be dropped off no earlier than 5:45 p.m. Pick-up will begin at 8:30 p.m. and all children must be picked up by 9 p.m.
Rising Stars 3K
Liberty Elementary will host The Rising Stars Kids 3K on Sunday November 7, 2021. It includes the following events: 3K Run/Walk (Ages 6-16), 1/4 Mile Run/Walk (Ages 2-5), and Race Volunteer. The race will start/finish at Liberty Elementary School and run along the paved Liberty Trail.
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Grassroots Running Club to promote youth running In Central Kentucky and to assist local schools in establishing new running programs.
Transy Partners with Frederick Douglass H.S.
Graduates of Frederick Douglass High School’s biomedical science program are eligible to receive a yearly scholarship to attend Transylvania University.
Students who apply to Transylvania by Feb. 1 of their senior year, and are admitted, will receive a minimum renewable scholarship of $20,000 per year. Douglass students who are accepted to attend Transylvania are also eligible for a number of additional merit-based scholarships and financial aid opportunities.
Thanksgiving School Schedule
Fayette County Public Schools superintendent Demetrus Liggins has decided to extend this year’s Thanksgiving break to a full week (Nov. 22-26) instead of the usual Wednesday through Friday, giving students and staff additional time off. Schools will not have to make up these two class days.
He writes, “In recognition of how hard everyone is working under challenging conditions this year, I have decided to extend Thanksgiving Break by two days, giving students and staff the full week of Thanksgiving off, instead of only Wednesday through Friday. We will not make up these days as part of the instructional calendar.”

Lexington Children’s Theatre presents Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells! A Play by Allison Gregory, adapted from the book series by Barbara Park. Continues for two weekends.
