There are numerous events being held in October to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Lexington. Here is a listing of some events:
SATURDAY, OCT 1
Komen Race for the Cure 5k, 9 a.m., downtown Lexington
The Kentucky branch of the Susan G. Komen Foundation will have its annual 5K on Saturday, Oct. 1 starting at 9 a.m. at the Robert Stephens Courthouse Plaza downtown.
Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure series is the world’s largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer ever created. The event raises significant funds and awareness for the breast cancer movement, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.
This race is unique in the fact that 100 percent of the net proceeds are allocated to our mission. 75 percent of the net income stays in our community to help fund local programs offering breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment. Yes Mamm! 5K Race, 9 a.m., RJ Corman
The Yes Mamm! 5K race hosted by R.J. Corman Railroad Group will take place on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 9 a.m. There will be a cash prize for the first, second, and third-place female and male participants. The Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation’s successful Yes, Mamm! program provides mammography screening and diagnostics for the underinsured. This year, they are on pace to complete over 500 mammograms through the KentuckyOne Health Breast Care locations in Lexington and at the Sandra J. Adams Digital Mammography Suite at Saint Joseph Jessamine RJ Corman Ambulatory Care Center in Nicholasville. Classes for a Cure, 11 a.m., Proof Fitness
Join Proof Fitness at both Lexington locations for our Classes for a Cure event, benefiting Susan G. Komen Kentucky. The day will be filled with 45 minute studio classes on the hour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at both Proof Fitness locations to raise money to support breast cancer awareness. Aren’t an avid class-taker? American Cancer Society All-In To End Cancer Casino Night, 6 p.m., The Livery
The All-In To End Cancer Casino night is at The Livery on Friday, Oct. 21 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. The third annual American Cancer Society Casino Night, sponsored by SafeLite AutoGlass, featuring local celebrities as blackjack dealers, local libations, fabulous food, Grab-A-Dice, spirits toss, jewelry pull and more. The money raised benefit research, education, programs, and services of the American Cancer Society in central Kentucky. Making Strides of Fayette, 3 p.m., Legends ballpark
The Making Strides of Fayette walk hosted by the American Cancer Society takes place on Sunday, Oct. 23. Registration begins at 1 p.m. and the walk begins at 3 p.m. at Legends ballpark. Help raise money for groundbreaking breast cancer research, life-saving education, and critical patient services by walking in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Making Strides of Fayette/Lexington. Get ready to join more than one million volunteers nationwide.
