With a chill in the air, central Kentucky starts to turn its attention to basketball and the upcoming holidays. November is filled with Thanksgiving options, music, and holiday open houses!
My Favorite Things Christmas Open House
Nov 1 – 3
My Favorite Things is Lexington’s premier store for luxury furniture, unique gifts, home decor, and interior design consultants. On November 1-3, My Favorite Things rings in the holiday season with an Open House including holiday refreshments, and author signings, including cookbook author Barbara Bach. Santa will be at My Favorite Things on Saturday, November 3 from noon to 4 pm.
Midway Old Fashioned Christmas
Nov 4
There will be plenty of fun for the whole family including free small train rides from noon to 4 pm. There will be a chili cook-off. Many local shops will be accepting toy donations for the Toys for Tots program. A portion of all money raised will be donated to the Toys for Tots program.
Songs of Celebration & Joy

Nov 5 at 5 pm
This annual Chamber Chorale event will include dialogue from Medieval English, fresh arrangements of international carols and a few recently composed works.

Kick holiday shopping into high gear with many local and regional vendors under one roof. This annual holiday-shopping boutique helps raise money for Celebrate Teachers, which provides a monetary Christmas bonus for teachers. Tickets now on sale.
Mary Todd Bicentennial Birthday
Downtown Arts Center

In honor of the 200th birthday of native Lexingtonian Mary Todd Lincoln, Bluegrass Opera will present a new musical focusing on her coming-of-age in the Bluegrass. The show offers a look at the events and relationships that shaped the future First Lady. Performances will be Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.; Nov. 10 at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.
Silent Night
Singletary Center for The Arts

“Silent Night” recounts a moment of peace: the year is 1914 and the Great War has just been declared, dividing nations and sending millions into battle. As Christmas Eve falls on a battlefield near Belgium, soldiers in French, German, and Scottish trenches begin recalling songs of home, stepping into no-man’s-land for a spontaneous truce. Performances will be held Nov 9 at 7:30 pm, Nov 10 at 7:30 pm and Nov 11 at 2 pm.
Lexington Singers Fall Concert
Tates Creek Presbyterian Church
Nov 10 at 4 pm
The Lexington Singers Children’s Choir features nearly 150 students across four choirs. The Fall Concert exhibits the work of students ranging from 5-18 years old and performing in a variety of styles and languages. Students perform as a choir, as soloists, as accompanists and as part of the Orff Ensemble.

Sts. Peter & Paul School will be hosting its second annual Merry Market vendor and craft fair Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Short Street Campus.

Holiday photos sessions in the Waveland Mansion or Winter Wonderland Barn at Waveland will be available beginning Sunday, November 11.
Southern Lights

Bring the family to explore over four miles of holiday light displays along a driving route through the Kentucky Horse Park. At the end of the tour, park and walk inside the park’s entrance to enjoy local crafts, model trains and mini train rides, visits with Santa, and exotic petting zoo.
“Elf The Musical”

Elf The Musical is the story of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity, and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. This modern day Christmas classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner elf.

Are you frying your Thanksgiving turkey this year? Lexington residents can recycle used cooking oil for free at the Gobble Grease Toss on November 23 from 10 am to 2 pm. Cooking oil only, and must be in a disposable container with a lid. Lexington residents only, no businesses, please.

Relive Christmas of the past with scenes from the Dickens’ classic, “A Christmas Carol” at Waveland State Historic Site. Since this Christmas classic was written in 1843, it only seems fitting to celebrate Christmas of the past in a historic home that was built in the same time period. Follow from room-to-room as the drama plays out in this magical Christmas experience.

The 12th annual Lexington Junior League Holly Day Market returns to the Lexington Convention Center Nov 30 through Dec 2. The Holly Day Market brings together vendors from across the country to Lexington for one weekend to give shoppers the opportunity to buy holiday gifts in one spectacular location. Daily events including cookies and pictures with Santa, door hanger workshop, Friday happy hour, and a wreath auction, are sure to make the market fun and memorable for all. Visitors will find more than 100 booths with vendors with boutique-style items unique to our community and other parts of the country. The ticket purchase helps support the Junior League of Lexington and the many local non-profit agencies it supports. Vendors sell jewelry, clothes for women, men and children, toys, books, holiday decorations, ornaments, art, food, and much more.

The Roadshow Christmas Tour will bring a night of holiday fun, fellowship, and remembering the reason for the season. Matthew West, Matt Maher, Building 429, Plumb, Josh Wilson and Leanna Crawford are on the docket for the first-ever “The Roadshow Christmas” visiting Rupp Arena Nov 30.
Story Time with Mrs. Claus

Although the Big Guy usually gets all the good press, Mrs. Claus joins in all the fun with a special reading for children 12 and under at the Waveland Museum. Even though it’s the busy season at the North Pole, Mrs. Claus is taking a moment to visit with kids in central Kentucky. She will be sharing holiday stories, milk and cookies, and fun. Kids will also receive a bag or reindeer food to take home for Rudolph’s Christmas Eve visit. Mrs. Claus will also be picking up letters to Santa that she will hand over to her husband. Mrs. Claus will also stop by Dec 12 and 15 at 10:30 am.

But when Charlie Brown thinks he ruined Christmas, the Peanuts help each other remember what friendship is all about. There will be public performances Dec 1, Dec 2, and Dec 8.
