This summer all FCPS students will be eligible to receive FREE rides on Lextran by showing their Student Success Library Card.

Kentucky American Water has awarded Ripple Effect Scholarships to three Kentucky high school seniors—Joseph Craven from Henry Clay High School, Kaitlyn Parker from Owen County High School and Samuel Newman from Tates Creek High School.

Lexington Public Library hosts their third annual park takeover every Saturday in June and July from 11 am until 1 pm. Bring the whole family for a variety of performances, interactive art, and games in Phoenix Park.

Brenda Cowan Elementary unveiled the school’s new logo. Representing Brenda Cowan and her service to the Lexington Fire Department and her community, the design also embraces educational pillars: The 3rd Grade Reading Pledge, Arts Integration, and Global Competency, all in Maroon, Gold and White. With almost 400 votes, residents have chosen the dalmatian as the official mascot.

Frederick Douglass High School hosted the Class AAA Region 6 Track Meet. Students from all of the Fayette County Public Schools participated as well as schools from neighboring counties. The 2019 Class AAA State meet is on June 1 at The University of Kentucky Outdoor Track & Field Complex.

The original Henry Clay High School, on Main street, will no longer host FCPS central office.

Head coaches at Frederick Douglass for a soccer camp for ages 5-13 on June 10- 13. Kids learn the skills of many positions including goalkeeping skills.

A LEGO Convention is coming for the young and young at heart on July 27 through July 28 at the Lexington Convention Center.

This summer, children who have registered for kindergarten in 2019-20 have a chance to attend a variety of fun and educational activities through the school district’s Countdown to Kindergarten program. To participate, simply register your child for kindergarten at your assigned elementary school. A full schedule of various events can be found on www.fcps.net.

In their second year as a team, Liberty Elementary girls were led to a State Championship by coaches Lindsey Roberts, Leah Park, Kathy Broadnax, Kevin Kyde, Rick Ingram, and Eric Harshman in the 2019 KTCCCA Elementary Track & Field Championships. The team originated when Hamburg neighbors at Grassroots Pharmacy founded the all-ages Grassroots running club.

The Kidz Club recently hosted an open house. The Kidz Club is a Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) program. PPEC is a day treatment program that provides quality skilled nursing care, education, and custodial needs for children 6 weeks to 20 years of age. The Kidz Club is a nurse-staffed medical daycare for children with special needs who cannot attend a typical daycare.
