HAPPENING IN HAMBURG
Frederick Douglass High School hosted the second annual Youth Citizens Academy: Fire & Emergency Services Field Day on Monday, October 29. This annual event provided students with a hands-on look at the multiple functions of Lexington’s Fire and Emergency Services personnel. Over 300 students participated in five different stations to include use of a fire engine’s water hose, bleeding control training and certification, fire extinguisher training, and an on-site landing of the medivac helicopter and tour of the aircraft. Holiday Trash Pickup
Residences and businesses with curbside city waste collection will not be serviced on Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23. The make-up day for both will be on Wednesday, November 21. Please place carts out after 4 pm the day before the make-up day to receive service.
Leaf Collection
Lexington’s vacuum leaf collection program will begin on Monday, Nov. 5. The vacuum pickup is offered once a year for single-family homes that receive city waste collection service. Residents should prepare leaves before collection begins in their neighborhood. Turn to page 21 for more details.

My Favorite Things Christmas Open House is November 1 through 3. There will be food all three days. Local cookbook author Barbara Bach will be there with her newest cookbook.

Pleasure Ridge Park football comes to Frederick Douglass for the first round of the KHSAA 6A tournament on Friday November 2 at 7:30 pm.

The Ninth Annual Bowls of Steel Chili Cook-Off at Man O War Harley Davidson is on Saturday, November 10 from noon until 2 pm. The registration fee goes to help local veterans, in honor of Veterans Day.
Lexington Women’s Health Mixmas Market benefitting Refuge for Women is November 10 at Crossroads Andover. Get your picture with Santa, catch a matinee movie, and get an early start on holiday shopping.
Sunday, November 11
Happy Veterans Day, thank you to all the men and women who served for our country.
Harmony Day Montessori School is hosting an Open House on Sunday, November 11 from 4:30 to 6 pm. This will be an opportunity to speak with staff, current families and learn about the Harmony Day School experience. Liberty Road Faith Fellowship Legends Breakfast is Saturday November 17 at 9 am. The featured guest speaker is Pat Day, Legendary Hall of Fame jockey and 1992 Kentucky Derby winning rider. He ranks fourth in overall winnings, earning nearly $298 million.
Man O’War Harley-Davidson hosts a Thanksgiving Brunch on November 17.
