Douglass Student Receives Distinguished Leader Award
The Leadership Lexington Youth Program presented its 2019 Distinguished Leader Award to Drew Rodriguez, a junior at Frederick Douglass High School. He accepted the plaque April 10 during the LLYP graduation luncheon at the Clubhouse at The Red Mile. “It’s about servant leadership and we have a responsibility to pay it forward. This group collectively not only inspires change, but creates change,” said Rodriguez.
Henry Clay Wins State
Henry Clay High School secured its sixth consecutive state debate championship this spring, while Paul Laurence Dunbar was runner-up in the team debate sweepstakes and second in the speech competition.

New Elementary chooses school colors
Brenda Cowen Elementary’s school colors are maroon and white with gold accents. The BCE students will vote on the school mascot during the first week of school. Above are progress photos from the month of April courtesy of Fayette County Public Schools. The first day of school is scheduled for Wednesday August 14, 2019.
LCA Celebrates 30 years with a concert event
Last month LCA hosted a celebration concert event with multi-Grammy and multi-Dove Award winning artists Paul Overstreet and Jason Crabb. The two artists were also joined by fellow singer/songwriter Billy Austin. This concert was in honor of their 30 year anniversary.
