The Lexington Senior Center reports that book club meetings “in the past three months have been good but with low attendance. We are practicing all Covid safety guidelines and hope things improve and that more of you will feel good about being with us.” November’s book selection is The Secrets We Keep by Kate Hewitt.
Free Vaccines
Lexington Fayette Urban County Health Department is offering free COVID19 vaccines. Vaccines are available by same day appointment every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the Public Health Clinic at 650 Newtown Pike.
Spring Forward, Fall Back
Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021, when the clock will “fall back” one hour. Days will continue to get shorter until Dec. 21 when the winter solstice arrives.
The time change is an excellent reminder to:
- test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
- change batteries
- upgrade alarms and check on your fire extinguishers
VOLUNTEER
Dementia Friendly Lexington is seeking volunteers interested in providing businesses with training on Dementia. They are also seeking businesses interested in achieving a Dementia Friendly Lexington Designation. SENIOR LIVING CALENDAR
The Friends of the Lexington Senior Center will be partnering with UK Healthcare to bring a series of health talks to the Lexington Senior Center. Stay tuned for more details.
UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging presents the 11th Annual Markesbery Symposium on Aging and Dementia on November 20 via Zoom. From 9 am to 11:30 am hear the latest dementia research, ask your aging and dementia-related questions, and get a critical update on the newly approved Alzheimer’s medication.
Keynote speaker is Allan Levey, MD, PhD: Director, Emory Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Other speakers include Sanders-Brown Researchers Greg Jicha, MD, PhD, and Erin Abner, PhD.
The Grandparent Cafe is a safe space for grandparents raising or caring for grandchildren to support one another, gain additional information, and strengthen parenting skills. Grandparents will engage in guided activities of the Kentucky Strengthening Families Model which will promote the six protective factors that are the strengths that help to buffer and support families.

Bluegrass Care Navigators offers a four-week support group for those who have experienced the death of a family member or friend, as everyone prepares for the upcoming holiday season.
Group will meet on Thursdays from 6 – 7:30 p.m. via Zoom.
