Fall brings a lot of nice things but raking up the leaves covering your lawn is not one of them.
For those who aren’t interested in bagging leaves or struggling to put them in their gray bins this year, the city’s 2015 leaf vacuum collection program will service the Hamburg and 40509 area between November 18-December 1.
Residents living between Liberty Road/Todds Road and Winchester Road will have their leaves vacuumed November 18-24 while all other 40509 residents’ leaves will be collected November 25-December 1.
Residents should rake their leaves into the area between the sidewalk and the street the Sunday before their scheduled vacuum collection.
If there is no sidewalk, residents are encouraged to rake leaves to the edge of the lawn closest to the street.
The city advises residents to never rake leaves into the street; they can cause traffic hazards and clog storm drains.
Piles should contain only leaves. Other objects, such as tree limbs and rocks, can injure crew members or damage equipment.
Adverse weather can affect scheduled dates so keep track of updates at lexingtonky.gov or sign up for email or text notifications at citygram.org/lexington.
Citygram, a new web application designed by Code for America, gives residents notifications about building permits, leaf collection schedules, code complaints and foreclosures in their area. Code for America is a technology fellowship that partnered with Mayor Jim Gray in 2014 to design creative ways to translate data into useful information for Lexington residents.
