Fireworks Rules and Safety

The Lexington Fire Department and Lexington Police Department urge citizens to use caution and follow the law when celebrating with fireworks. The number one thing to remember about fireworks law is if it goes up or blows up, it is illegal in Fayette County.

ALLOWED:

The only fireworks allowed to be sold or used in Fayette County are ground and hand-held sparkling devices, such as sparklers, ground spinners and fountains.

PROHIBITED:

All aerial and audible ground devices, such as bottle rockets and firecrackers, are prohibited in Fayette County.Anyone found in violation of the local fireworks ordinance will be cited by the Lexington Police Department.

 

Grow Smart Academy Virtual Sessions

Applications are now available for Fayette Alliance’s Grow Smart Academy Virtual Sessions, scheduled for July 20, July 27, August 3, and August 10 from 6-7:30 pm. Applications are accepted through July 7. Alumni are encouraged to apply. Grow Smart Academy (formerly Citizens’ Planning Academy) is a free, four-week program designed to educate Fayette County residents on land-use planning and its relationship to the community’s economic development, environment, and quality-of-life.

 

Updates on the Neighborhood’s New Middle School

Fayette County’s Board of Education has begun the next steps for the new middle school planned for Polo Club Boulevard. These next steps included approving the construction cost, a revised project application, and design documents.

JRA Architects is the design consultant for the project. The building is projected to be around 140,479 square feet and serve 1,200 students.

Friday Flicks screening of The Croods 2: A New Agehas been rescheduled for Friday, July 16 at Jacobson Park. Activities begin at 7 pm and the movie at dark.

 

Volunteer with 45th Boys PGA Championship

The 45th Boys Junior PGA Championship is searching for the help of many volunteers. The championship is at Kearney Hill Golf Links on July 10-15. (July 10 – 11 Practice Rounds & July 12 – 15 Competition). Deadline for volunteer applications is July 3, 2021. All volunteers will receive a uniform, and access to the championship grounds all week long. Committees will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis so send in your application as soon as possible.

What’s happening to TGI Friday’s?

The TGI Friday’s location on the corner of Man o’War Blvd and Sir Barton Way has sat vacant since May 2020, marking a goodbye to the last TGI Friday’s in Lexington. According to public records, a ‘Commercial Remodel Permit’ was filed for the 2,500 square foot space with the project name “Local Taco Hamburg.” This will be Local Taco’s second location in Lexington. Local Taco is currently located on South Limestone, serving Tex-Mex inspired dishes like tacos, quesadillas, and enchiladas.
